The centre of Haarlem
Haarlem has a beautiful, old city centre that was built long before the invention of the automobile. The city centre’s narrow streets therefore offer little space for parking.

Where can You park?

Car parks
The centre of Haarlem has four car parks, in which you can park your car safely and inexpensively. The car parks are open 24 hours a day. You will see signs to the car parks as you drive into Haarlem.

Parking on the streets
There are a limited number of parking spaces on the city centre streets. You can, however, still park your car in a number of streets. You are required to pay a parking fee between 9 AM and 11 PM, Monday through Saturday. In those cases, you will have to either buy a ticket from a machine or put money into the parking-meter next to your parking space.

Rates for street parking
Parking on the street outside the city centre costs € 1.70 per hour. In the city centre it costs € 2.50 per hour. Street parking is free on Sundays. In Schalkwijk the parking fee is € 0.20 for the first 60 minutes, € 0.50 for the next 60 minutes and € 1.00 every next 60 minutes (between 09.00 - 18.00 hr Monday through Saturday, at late night shopping till 21.00 hr).

Parking inspection
You risk receiving a fine if you have paid too little or not at all. If the parking-meter or machine is out of order, you have to purchase a ticket at another machine or park your car elsewhere. Should you receive a fine, you can pay it directly at the community of Haarlem ("Publieksdienst"), located at Zijlsingel 1. If you don’t pay instantely, then a giro payment slip with additional administrative costs will be sent to you.
